Auckland Museum

When we arrived at the Auckland Museum we settled down in the kai room. In the kai room we ate our morning tea. At school we were put into teams, I was with Jonson, Brandon, Hiwarau, Taniela, Leka, Paula and our teacher was Mrs Lagitupu.

The first thing we look at was the maori gallery. We saw harakeke and carvings. After the maori gallery we to the pacific gallery. There were traditional costumes and tapo in Tonga.  Niuean has similar things to maori.

After looking at the Auckland Museum we went outside to the domain. Once we got outside we had to take several photos. Some of the thing we took photos of were scalpchers, flowers and the waterfall.

In conclusion the Auckland Museum is home to valuable objects. It is where you learn about art and the history of our country.

Washing your hands

Washing your hands is the most important step because it takes away the bacteria that can make you sick. Because you touch things that are dirty and then you eat thing that go into your mouth. If you don't wash your hands you will get germs.

Your hands get dirty because you touch pets and go toilet. It can also get dirty by touching rubbish. Sneezing on your hands gets bacteria.

why is it important to have class and school rules?

Why is it important to have class and school rules?

If we didn't have class and school rules then kids could do whatever they like. Kids would do things like fight, steal things around them and muck around.

The school would look messy and ugly. Kids will not learn without rules. They might not respect the property. People might be a bad role model and the teachers would be disappointed.

Cross Country

At Pt England school we did cross country. This event happens every year. It was held on Thursday last week at 1:00 PM. It started from the year 1 boys up to the year 8 girls. There were parents and family supporting their children.

As Mr Burt called us up I was shaking. During our race, I ran at a medium pace. Passing other students bit by bit. I began to slow down a bit. As I got on the reserve I began to walk. As I passed teacher I heard words of encouragement.

Beginning my second lap, I was worn out but I wasn’t going to stop. Slowly jogging I spotted some  of my friends. I tried to catch up to them but they were too fast. So I just ran by myself.

I was near the finish line so I began sprinting my hardest. I crossed the finish line and celebrated my victory. Drinking plenty of water I was exhausted. I knew I did my best and I was very proud of myself.

Children and exercise

Children should exercise every day because it is important to train to get  better at cross country. The seniors have been running every day to the Pt England reserve. Which is really important.

Children should exercise every day to stay healthy and to keep their muscles strong. Exercise is good for you to stay fit.

I think that kids should exercise every day because they get better at all kinds of sport. I know that running is a good way to exercise. I believe that  playing sports like rugby, and touch.

Children should exercise every day because it is good for your health.

Intro:
We have been learning really cool skills at AFL.This happens every week on wednesday. AFL is a really cool spot. Tim, our AFL teacher has been teaching us these skills. I like AFL because I think kicking the ball is fun.
o
What we learn:
The skills we learnt in AFL is handball, punt kick, passing and catching. To do the hand ball you need to hold the ball flat on your left hand and  with you right  hand, hit the x on the ball.

Conclusion:

I have been really enjoying these lessons, but sadly because term 2 is over, AFL is over. I’m looking forward to the spots we will be doing next term.

Zion Echolocation

What is Echolocation?
Echolocation is when animals use sound to find their food. First they make a sound. Next the sound rebounds off their prey and back to them. This skill is unique.

Who is Ben Underwood?
Ben Underwood was a kid who learnt echolocation. He makes a clicking sound with his mouth. It rebounds off the object and the sound comes back. He was blind but he could  play basketball, ride his bike and skate.

What animals use Echolocation?
The animals that use Echolocation are whales, dolphins and bats. Dolphins and whales use Echolocation because it is really dark under water. Bats use it because it is dark at night and when they come out they need to find their food.

Touch

For  those who want to play touch. They have to need a coach and a rugby ball. Then you need two set of teams. Now you can play the games. Then you choose

what team to kick. Once they catch the rugby ball you have to start running and when you get touch you have to tap the ball and pass it to your team mate. Then you need to do the same thing until it is 5th and fine.

Once they score a try. They would get points for their team. Then the other team would have to kick the ball.

Funnel ears science experiment

Science experiment:

Question: What will happen to the sound if I change the shape of a piece of paper? (e.g. from a flat shape to a funnel shape)

Links to research about Sound:

Hypothesis: (What do you think will happen?) e.g. I think that….

Materials needed:

Experiment (procedure):

e.g. Step 1 - First hold a flat piece of paper against your ear. Block your other ear with your hand. Get your partner to speak to you. What is the sound like? Can you hear clearly?

Step 2 - Next, roll the piece of paper into a funnel shape. Put the funnel against your ear. Face the funnel towards your partner and listen to them speak. What does it sound like? Can you hear clearly?

Step 3 - Next, face the funnel to the side while your partner speaks to you. Does it make a difference to the sound that you can hear?

Step 4 - Put some cotton balls or tissue paper into the funnel to block one end. Does it make a difference to the sound you hear?

Step 5 - Next, roll the piece of paper up and l

Data (What happened?)

Shape/object/materials
Results:
1
flat piece of paper
It sounded the same.
2
funnel facing to the front
It sounded a bit louder
3
funnel facing to the side
It sounded softer
4
cotton ball or tissue  blocking the narrow end of the funnel
It sounded softer than the one before
5
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the front)
It was louder and clearer
6
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the side)
It was not that clear.

Observations:

When I used a flat piece of paper it sounded the same. When I used the funnel facing to the front it sounded a bit louder. When I used funnel facing to the side it sounded softer. When I used cotton ball or tissue  blocking the narrow end of the funnel It sounded softer than the one before. When I rolled up piece of paper (facing to the front) it was louder and clearer. When I rolled up piece of paper (facing to the side)It was not that clear.

Conclusion:

l learned that when I use a funnel facing to the front it helps me to hear better. When it is facing to the side I can’t hear as well as before.

Fia Fia

Last Night at 6:00pm we had to go to our changing room to get ready for our performance. I wore lavalava, a sisi and black face paint. Then  we went down the corridor door and out the library.

When we went outside, we saw a lot of people. The performance I liked the most was the Cook Island drums. The thing I did not enjoy was that we had to sit on the ground for a long time.

When we were almost about to perform I felt kind of nervous. In our performance we did a haka and the girls dance. When it was happening it Screenshot from 2014-04-11 10:05:21.png
